1973 |
Mitchell
graduated as a Landscape Technician (HLT) from
Humber College of
Applied Arts & Technology (now Humber Institute
of Technology & Advanced Learning).

1973-Present |
Mitchell started his work at the
Homewood Health Centre in
Guelph, Ontario, Canada as an Associate Horticulturist, then in
1975 Mitchell began work as Co-ordinator of Horticultural
Therapy at the Centre, and finally he was deemed Manager of the
Horticultural Therapy Department in 1979 where he continues in
this role today in 2006. |

1976
|
Mitchell finished his internship at the Clinton Valley Centre,
affiliated with the
University of Michigan.
Mitchell then received his
Horticultural Therapist Registered (HTR) from the National
Council for Therapy & Rehabilitation Through Horticulture (NCTRH), in
Mount Vernon, Virginia (This certification is equivalent to a BSc, Bachelor of Science).
The NCTRH was succeeded by The
American Horticultural Therapy Association
(AHTA).

| 1978 |
Mitchell completes a series of courses at the University of
Guelph in Psychology in partial fulfillment of the requirements
of the HTM designation. |
| 1983 |

The designation
Horticultural Therapist Masters (HTM) was given to Mitchell by
the American Horticultural Therapy Association East Lafette,
Indiana.

Mitchell received
an Ontario Management Development Program Certificate, in
Business Management Studies by the
Ontario Ministry of Colleges
and Universities.

Mitchell
initiated a Horitcultural Therapy Program at the Stonehenge
Therapeutic Community, a centre for substance abuse
rehabilitation in Guelph, Ontario, Canada.

| 1994 |
Mitchell
published "Horticulture as Therapy" the first book of its kind
in Canada and also began consulting on a private basis. |
| 1996 |
Mitchell, having become Associate Faculty at Conestoga College
taught the first official series of courses on Horticulture as
therapy; he continued to do so for several years. He has
also taught courses for Mohawk College. |

1998s |
Mitchell earned a
diploma titled Registered Health Care Practitioner (RHCP) in
PsychoAromatherapy from the Aromatherapy Reflexology Centre
(International Holistic Studies Centre) in Hamilton, Ontario. |
| 1998-present |
Mitchell began
consulting work with
VisionScapes a Landscape Architecture
company based in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada and also with the
Walter Fedy Partnership, Engineers and Project Managers, in
Waterloo, Ontario; he continues this work today. |
