What is a Horticultural Therapist and how do you find out more?
The Horticultural therapist is a person who is specially educated and trained as a member of a rehabilitation team. They work with doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists, occupational therapists and others who all involve a client with the nature and art of gardening, design and cultivation of plants. This involvement can successfully be used to benefit the client’s rehabilitation and life after illness. There are several levels of recognition and training that are designated by the American Horticultural Therapy Association and Canadian Horticultural Therapy Association in North America. A Horticultural therapist can be designated HTT, HTA, HTR, and HTM; Horticulture Therapist Technician (Can) Assistant (USA), Registered (Can & USA), and Master (USA). More about these designations can be found on the CHTA and AHTA websites.
